Update from the Head of Prep, Mrs Hornby
13/06/2025
What a whirlwind of a week it has been here at school, filled with the incredible energy and sounds of the African savannah! I am still buzzing from last night’s phenomenal Prep 6 production of The Circle of Life. The week of intensive rehearsals paid off spectacularly, culminating in a performance that was a true feast for the senses. The children’s passion, confidence and talent shone so brightly on stage, and they should be immensely proud of what they achieved. School productions are powerful learning experiences; they build confidence, teach teamwork and create memories that will last a lifetime.
As we close the curtain on that magnificent show, we look ahead to another significant event in the school calendar: our Induction afternoon next week. This is an exciting opportunity for all our pupils to “move up” for an afternoon to the class they will be in next academic year. It’s a chance to meet their new teachers, get a feel for their new classroom environments and find out about all the exciting things they will be learning. These transition days are an important part of helping pupils feel comfortable and confident about the move to their next stage of learning, ensuring they arrive in September, not with trepidation, but with enthusiasm.
Adding to the excitement, we have a very special day planned for next Tuesday – a “No Rules Day”! This fantastic initiative has been thoughtfully planned and organised by our diligent Student Council representatives. While the name might sound like chaos, the purpose is educational. For one day, some of our usual school rules will be relaxed and the children are certainly looking forward to it! This experience will serve as a brilliant springboard for conversations with their new teachers during the Induction afternoon about why rules are necessary for a safe, happy and productive learning environment. It will help them to understand the different boundaries and expectations that will be in place in their new year groups, fostering a sense of responsibility and mutual respect from the very beginning.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Carla Hornby
