Mrs Rebecca Barnett
(Headteacher), BA (Hons), MA, PGCE
Mrs Barnett joined us in September 2016 when she relocated from Kenya having worked as Head at Braeburn Mombassa International School for 3 years. Mrs Barnett lives in the Ribble Valley with her husband, Dan, and their two daughters, Poppy and Willa, both of whom attend Westholme. Mrs Barnett relishes Westholme life well with its warm family and community atmosphere and loves being part of a dedicated staff team.
Mr M Haworth
(Deputy Head), BA (Hons) Leeds Metropolitan, St Martin’s Lancaster PGCE
Mr Haworth is now into his seventh year of teaching at Westholme and is thoroughly enjoying being part of the management team at Beardwood Bank. He enjoys working in such a close knit school and loves the caring atmosphere found within it. Mr Haworth lives in Blackburn with his wife and two young boys. He is a keen sportsperson with running and mountain biking being his main passions. He is looking forward to completing various Marathons again and taking part in other endurance events. He ‘enjoys’ coaching and watching Blackburn Rovers, but his favourite pastime is spending time with his family in the great outdoors.
Mrs N S Bailey-Carter
BA (Hons), English Literature, PGCE Manchester Metropolitan University
This is Miss Bailey’s first year working at Westholme and she is thoroughly looking forward to teaching fun, energetic and engaging lessons in year 5. “My aim is to challenge the children through thought provoking lessons and give them responsibility for their own learning through team work.”
Miss Bailey began her teaching career in Manchester before moving to Shanghai for two years to teach at an international school.
She thoroughly enjoys teaching English and is passionate about creative writing. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, cooking and exploring new countries.
As a keen traveller and photographer, Miss Bailey and has visited over 51 countries and counting!
Mr M Barker
Mr Barker is in his first year teaching at Westholme, having worked at small village school in the South Lakes. He has been teaching for 11 years, having previously been a police officer and an Army officer. Mr Barker particularly enjoys teaching sports and games and is looking forward to running the Year 3/4 football club, as well as getting involved with the rugby and cricket teams.
He has a daughter who is currently in her second year at Leicester University. He likes to spend his time riding his bike, cooking, gardening, reading and improving his photography skills.
Mr D Barnett

Mr Barnett is enjoying teaching PE to the children in different year groups. He loves sports, travel and outdoor pursuits.
Mrs H Burton
BA (Hons), QTS, Edge Hill College
Mrs Burton has a life long connection with Westholme as she attended the school as a pupil. She first started her career at the Girls’ Junior School in 1994. After a short break to have a family she joined the Boys’ Junior School as a part time music teacher in 2006. Mrs Burton is now enjoying spending more time teaching at the Junior School whilst also enjoying getting to know the smallest of the Westholme family whilst teaching music at the Infant School.
Mrs Burton lives in Blackburn with her husband, children Charles and Ella and their recent addition to the family, a puppy called Barney.
Mrs L Butler
BA (Hons) with QTS, Lancaster
Mrs Butler came to Westholme in September 2006. Ever since then, she has taught Year 5 and really enjoys this age group. Mrs Butler has a passion for art and is enjoying running a lunchtime club for Years 3 and 4. She loves rugby and cricket and has been involved in running the cricket team in previous years. She has also been involved in some of the drama productions over the years as well. Mrs Butler has a gorgeous son called Ciaran who keeps her busy in her spare time! As she is originally from Northern Ireland, she looks forward to going there during her holidays to catch up with family.
Mr P Harrison
BA (Hons) Manchester, PGCE
Mr Harrison has taught at Westholme since 2006. As well as working with a Year 4 class, he loves the opportunity of teaching computing to all the children in infants and juniors, and is renowned across the school for his sense of humour – so he says! He is fanatical about sport, especially cricket and football, and is a long suffering supporter of Everton FC. Mr Harrison is married with two sons, both of whom thrived during their time at Westholme.
Mrs A Holden
Mrs Holden is our School secretary. She is also our Holiday Club Manager. After spending a number of years as Secretary at the Infant School, Mrs Holden moved to the Junior School in January 2017 and is enjoying getting to know everyone at Beardwood Bank. She loves going for coastal walks with their dogs Monty and Skye and spending time with her family. She also enjoys a spot of camping in the UK as well as reading. Her husband is the Groundsman at Westholme Senior School.
Mrs M Ingham
Mrs Ingham moved from the Senior School to the Junior School in September 2013. She loves all things Westholme and, having taught in four previous schools, thinks she has now come to the best one. She finds the pupils absolutely delightful and she is really looking forward to putting her own stamp on PE. She loves all sporting experiences in particular hockey, netball, gymnastics, athletics and fitness.
“My aim is to instil all pupils with a love of physical activity so that when they leave for pastures new, they continue to enthuse about the subject and develop all their talents and abilities.”
Mrs E Lowde
BA (Hons), Northumbria, PGCE (Maternity Leave)
Mrs Lowde has a long history with Westholme School; she started as a pupil in nursery aged three and continued through to the Sixth Form.
“I thought Westholme was such a happy place for me and I wanted to be in the position to create an equally positive and stimulating environment”, said Mrs Lowde, explaining why she had returned to teach at Westholme after completing her degree. A natural sportswoman, Mrs Lowde has contributed enthusiastically to extra curricular activities by running netball and tennis clubs. Her hobbies include walking her dog in the Lake District and skiing.
Mrs M Rogerson
Mrs Rogerson started working at Westholme Infant School as a classroom assistant in December 1996. In September 2012, she joined the Junior School and has enjoyed working with the older pupils. At home, she enjoys socialising with her friends and taking her black labrador, Buster for walks. She also likes being in the garden – weather permitting! Mrs Rogerson is the proud Nana of Jessica and Emily who she loves spending lots of time with.
Mrs H Silvester
BA (Hons) Nottingham, PGCE (York)
Mrs Silvester’s links to Westholme School go back to 2002 when she joined the staff as Year 6 Teacher, a role which she thoroughly enjoyed for 12 years. Since 2016, she has worked as Learning Support Co-ordinator, which involves both supporting small groups of pupils in the classroom and withdrawing individual children for more specialist help. Mrs Silvester feels privileged to be part of such a happy, supportive and purposeful school, and she is excited to be returning to the classroom for two days a week in September 2018 as Year 5 Teacher. She has a particular love of English, drama and history. She has been involved in numerous Junior School productions at Westholme over the years and she has helped many children to prepare for their LAMDA verse-speaking and prose examinations. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, walking her dog, caravanning with her husband and going to the theatre.
Miss C M Strickland
BA (Hons), QTS, Trinity & All Saints, Leeds
Miss Strickland began her teaching career in London before joining Westholme in September 2001. Since then she hasn’t wanted to teach anywhere else!
Miss Strickland thoroughly enjoys teaching drama and has directed several Year 4 WISPA productions. “It has been a rewarding experience to watch these young performers grow in confidence and develop their talents”. In her spare time Miss Strickland enjoys performing in plays at her local theatre as well as spending time with her family.
Mrs Janette Sutcliffe
BEd (Hons), AIST Swimming Qualification
Mrs Sutcliffe loves teaching in Year 3 because there are some amazing topics to learn about. She travels to Westholme all the way from her home in the Lake District. She is passionate about Westholme, having been a pupil from the age of three. Mrs Sutcliffe loves a challenge and competes in many different sports including tennis, cycling and outdoor swimming. She also enjoys walking in the mountains with her dogs Ida and Doris and husband Bob and loves paddle boarding with them both on Rydal water while having her favourite treat – Grasmere Gingerbread! Mrs Sutcliffe and Bob enjoy looking after their 3 cats, chickens and ducks. They raise money for different charities by selling the eggs on their doorstep! In the holidays, Mrs Sutcliffe also runs the Swimcamp Club at Westholme for Infant andJunior children.
Mrs D Thorpe
BA (Hons) Liverpool, PGCE, Dip R.S.A.
Mrs Thorpe is passionate about all things French, especially the food! She teaches French in the Infant School, Junior School and Senior School, so it is fortunate that she enjoys travelling! She loves teaching at Westholme as it is such a vibrant and happy place to be and the children are so enthusiastic about everything they do.
She has a daughter and two sons and in her spare time enjoys walking and reading. She has been a Guider for over twenty years and is currently a leader with Rangers in the Ribble Valley.
Mrs J Tinniswood
GMus, Huddersfield, QTS
Mrs Tinniswood started her career as a performer, accompanist and instrumental teacher. As a pianist she has been privileged to travel and perform with some exceptional musicians and has made various CD and radio recordings. Westholme is a creative and vibrant school with a reputation for its musical and extra curricular opportunities. Mrs Tinniswood is enthusiastic about sharing her talents and supporting pupils on their musical journey.
Mr A Houghton
Mr Houghton is one of our Maintenance Team members and he helps to maintain the grounds at the Junior School. He also transports the children to various sporting events in the school mini-bus and enjoys hearing all about their successes on the journey home!
Mr D Gorse
Mr Gorse works alongside Mr Houghton and together they form a formidable team in keeping the Junior School ship shape!
