Herzlich Willkommen in unserer Abteilung!
YEARS 7-9 (LOWER SENIORS)
All students learn German for one lesson a week in Year 7. The lessons incorporate all four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing and students work independently, with partners and in groups. The department is also fortunate enough to have a German native language assistant who works with the students, focusing on their pronunciation and confidence when speaking. Topics include: Myself, School, Family and Home Town. Students can choose to continue with German in Years 8 and 9 and will have two lessons a week.
YEARS 10-11 (GCSE)
Examination Board: Edexcel
The topics covered are:
School
Identity and culture
Local area, holiday and travel
Future aspirations, study and work
Global and international dimension
Students have three lessons a week and during that time they have supplementary sessions with the language assistant who helps them with their speaking skills and with any areas that require support. In lessons, students learn a broad range of vocabulary, structures and tenses to allow them to express themselves confidently in both spoken and written form whilst being able to understand the language too. They also work on the different skills required for the GCSE which is all exam based. The exam is divided into 4 parts: speaking, listening, reading and writing which are all weighted at 25%.
OTHER INFORMATION
The department also gets involved in a number of Co-curricular activities such as a weekly German club, a trip to Germany for Year 8 and 9 students and a planned Christmas Market trip.
