Westholme – English Schools Fell Running Champions 2009!

Team Champions in the Howgill Fell Race at Sedburgh School

 

Congratulations to the Westholmers who competed in the English Schools Fell Running Championships at Sedbergh School, Cumbria.  Fourteen Westholme pupils took up the challenge of running up and down Winder Fell – part of the Howgill Fell range.  The event was certainly not for the faint-hearted – well done to each and every team member!

RESULTS

Year 7:  Millie Ainsworth finished 5th, Flora Robson finished 7th and Jade Connelly finished 20th.

Team Results: 1st – Lincroft School, Birmingham (30 points); 2nd – Westholme (32 points); 3rd – Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School (38 points).

Year 8 & 9:  Megan Davis finished 3rd, Lucy Davis was 4th, Katie Buckley was 5th, Florrie Slater was 27th, Hannah Dobrashian was 30th, Sophie Taylor was 34th and Lottie Latham-Taylor was 47th. Both boys and girls run together in these races and there were 135 competitors in this age group. 

Team Results:  1st – Westholme (12 points); 2nd – Ulverston Victoria (29 points); 3rd St. Wilfrid’s (52 points).

Year 10 & 11: Beckie Taylor won the race in commanding style in new course record time of 34 minutes, 19 seconds.  Beckie won the gold medal and the title of English Schools Champion. Rhiannon Hamill was 18th, Millie Ainsworth was 20th and Emily Thornhill was 24th. 

Team Results:  1st – Westholme (39 points); 2nd – Cockermouth (45 points); 3rd Lancaster (46 points).

Westholme School – overall Team Champions – a tremendous achievement!
