Careers Convention – the biggest and best yet!
The Westholme Careers Convention on the evening of Tuesday 27 April was the biggest event of its kind to date and the best attended by far. Seventy representatives from over fifty career areas shared their expertise and experiences with students from Year 8 through to Sixth Form.
The younger students could visit the Careers Fair, whilst the older students were able to attend short presentations from university admissions tutors and experts from various popular professions. The dining hall hosted a plethora of medically-related careers including pathology, speech therapy, social work and psychology. The library was filled with representatives from the armed forces, the Environment Agency, town planning and surveying, accountancy and BAE Systems amongst others. For humanities students the sixth form common room offered journalism, graphic design, theatre and television, law and languages together with business, stockbroking, retail management and more. There was a real buzz around school from start to finish with students and parents making the most of the opportunity to talk to experienced practitioners about the attractions, challenges and rewards of their particular area of work.
