Westholme’s fond farewells

A day of tributes for Westholme’s staff who are retiring or moving on to pastures new . . .

Westholme’s pupils and staff said their fond farewells in an emotional day of tributes and tears.  We send them all our very best wishes for the future.

Mrs Elizabeth Gibson

After 37 years of loyal service to the School, we are sorry to say goodbye to our Head of English. Her humour evidenced in the many School magazines she has edited will also be sorely missed! She leaves to spend more time with her family and may try her hand at some freelance journalism.

Mrs Jackie Smith

An amazing 29 years have passed since Mrs Smith came to us in the capacity of Home Economics teacher! She has been a dedicated teacher of food and has also helped with textiles in her tenure here. Retirement beckons for her to spend more time with her family.

Mrs Debbie Northin

In her 14 years here, Mrs Northin has been a respected Year 6 teacher and an admirable leader of Billinge House. She has been a great asset to Westholme. We thank her for her significant contribution and wish her well in her new post.

Mrs Lynn Hepworth

Mrs Hepworth joined us 13 years ago as a part time Maths teacher. Her role expanded into full time Examinations Officer, with some IT teaching and more Maths. After reaching retirement age she became part time once again and is now looking forward to improving her golf handicap and becoming a better Grandma!

Mrs Michéle Emptage

Over the past 8 years, Mrs Emptage has fulfilled the roles of Head of Year, French teacher and Deputy Head. She now joins Casterton, a little closer to her home, as Head of Languages with responsibility for all the NQT staff.

Mr Gordon Whitfield

Mr Whitfield is looking forward to a well earned career break after 12 years as an IT teacher here at Westholme. He has also been an excellent bass guitarist in many productions and a superb compere at many sporting and theatrical events!

Mrs Jean Hartley

Mrs Hartley has given us 8 years of dedicated service across the whole language curriculum, including French, Spanish and Latin. We wish her well in her retirement.

Miss Emma Holmes

Five years have passed since Emma, a former pupil, came to teach French and German. She has also contributed significantly to the Music department. We wish her all the best for her future plans in Germany.

Miss Francesca Webb

Having spent her first 2 NQT years with us in the Mathematics department, Francesca leaves us to further her career at Holy Cross Sixth Form College, Bury.

Mr David Hatton

The Boys’ School have benefited from Mr Hatton’s teaching in Year 6. We wish him every success in his new role teaching secondary level pupils.

Mrs Hepworth, Mrs Smith, Mrs Gibson and Mrs Hartley treated everyone to cake at break!
