On Friday 29 April we were thrilled to be able to celebrate our students’ wonderful sporting achievements of the past 12 months at the Sports Awards 2022, especially because we had to miss out last year due to the pandemic. This made the night feel even more special.
Held at Ewood Park, home of Blackburn Rovers FC, we welcomed students and their families – all dressed up for the occasion and ready to celebrate! The evening was opened by magnificent dance, song and artistic gymnastic performances from our students, followed by an inspiring speech from guest speaker, Olympian Marilyn Okoro, who competed in the 800m and won 4x400m bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Marilyn presented awards for a number of sports including over 40 Sporting Excellence awards given to students that play sports at a regional and/or national level and told our students to “dream audaciously big”. It was great to have such an enthusiastic guest speaker such as Marilyn, who really took the time to engage and inspire our students.
Our Director of Sport, Mr Purdy, said: “The Sports Awards 2022 was a fantastic event celebrating a year in sport at Westholme School.”
“Sport plays such an important role at Westholme. Without a full team we are nothing – and the PE Department are very proud of every student who represents the school in any sport.”
Overall it was a fantastic evening and a great way to celebrate the sporting achievements of out students.
