Students in Prep 2 – 6 were treated to a memorable experience when they were able to meet renowned children’s author Dame Jacqueline Wilson, who visited Westholme to talk about her new book ‘The Magic Faraway Tree: A New Adventure’.
We warmly invited 12 schools to join us and the Croston Theatre was packed with pupils who listened eagerly as Dame Jacqueline read an excerpt from the book. The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton was Dame Jacqueline Wilson’s own favourite book as a young child and she revisits this glorious magical world, weaving a brand-new story perfect for the next generation of young readers. She had many of the students captivated as she read passages out in the Theatre.
Dame Jacqueline encouraged the audience to follow their dreams by being determined and having self-belief. The children had the opportunity to ask many questions and learn more about Dame Jacqueline and left the experience incredibly inspired.
Students were also able to pose for group photographs in their classes with Dame Jacqueline on stage, and left with their pre-signed copy of the book which we’re sure they will treasure for years to come.
Afterwards, Dame Jacqueline was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Dr Robson and Mrs Robson on stage who thanked her for her time, and for visiting us. It really was a treat to have such an esteemed guest at Westholme. Dame Jacqueline Wilson has written over 100 books and won numerous prizes. Dame Wilson’s breakthrough to fame was in 1991 with The Story of Tracy Beaker, and the former Children’s Laureate has also had many of her books turned into successful TV and stage adaptations.
Thank you Dame Jacqueline Wilson for coming in to see us and to Silverwood Events for organising an event to remember.
