Chemistry Competition

Chemistry experiments & knowledge

The Year 12 Chemistry team travelled to Brighton earlier this week, to compete in the National Finals of the Royal Society of Chemistry Schools’ Analyst Competition. They qualified after winning the North West regional heats that were held in April. On arrival the students enjoyed a trip to Pizza Hut and a game of bowling at Brighton Marina to check out the competition from the other schools.

The following day the competition was held at the University of Sussex Chemistry. Our team of students had three hours to complete four complexed experiments using unfamiliar scientific apparatus. The tasks were set at first year degree level and challenged the students to work as a team and apply their Chemistry knowledge and practical skills to solve the problems.

The students did extremely well to complete the tasks in the time allowed. They thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to conduct advanced experiments in the university laboratories. The team received £100 to spend on Chemistry equipment for the school.

Congratulations to the students that took part in the competition and we look forward to receiving the final results!
