At the beginning of December last year, the English Department launched the Westholme Book Boom to get pupils excited and engaged in reading for fun, not just in the classroom.
Each pupil was gifted a free book from the School, and they were able to select one to keep from a range of texts – from Victorian Classics to Modern masterpieces – with the options available being The Hobbit, Ballet Shoes for Anna, The Boy in Striped Pyjamas and Oliver Twist.
Over the Christmas break and the start of 2021, students have been encouraged to send in photos of themselves reading their books in exciting and interesting places, for the newly launched Westholme Extreme Reading Competition. The most exciting entry will receive a prize after the competition closes during half-term.
Here are a few of the entries so far!
