Greenland Expedition – a journey of discovery
Yesterday, the whole of Year 8 took part in a ‘Greenland Expedition’.
They learnt how Greenland was colonised by Erik the Red and discovered different aspects of Norse cultur’ by examining a range of artefacts. They also took part in a simulation to understand why the Norse settlers died out after 500 years.
Their study of contemporary Greenland included considering the impact of climate change on different communities in Greenland and how young Greenlanders cope with the pressures of modern life.
This cross-curricular activity was run jointly by the History and Geography Department and proved to be a really interesting and thought provoking morning for Year 8.
