Geographers visit MediaCityUK to study urban regeneration

The Year 13 geographers ventured into Salford Quays for their latest outing to study the success of the urban regeneration.

 

Of particular interest was the MediaCityUK development, ‘where people can live, work and create’.  This is the UK’s first purpose-built media city and future home of the BBC.  The girls discussed the impact this development will have on the area before heading off on the Metrolink into Manchester city centre.

 

After sampling the sustainable transport network, these intrepid geographers walked from Piccadilly through the Whitworth corridor to Castlefields and saw how the warehouses and wharfs have been transformed into luxury apartments, offices and bars.  The trip culminated with a visit to Cloud 23, the bar in the Beetham Tower (Hilton Hotel), to enjoy the spectacular views of the regeneration below.
