A Night to Remember: Adventure-Filled Sleepover at Prep!

Last Friday, Prep was transformed into an exciting, one night only, unforgettable overnight sleepover filled with fun, creativity and wildlife wonder.

Excited chatter filled the air on Friday morning as the Prep 2 and 3 children arrived for another school day, sleeping bags in hand, ready for an action-packed adventure. This inaugural event, designed to foster team work, independence and create lasting memories, offered a range of exciting activities.

The afternoon began after lunch when the children changed into their own clothes before heading along Meins Road to ‘George and Clemmies’ farm for homemade ice cream, enjoying a playtime in the glorious sunshine. Once back at Prep, the children took part in an orienteering challenge around the school grounds. The children worked in teams using maps to locate hidden markers, working together to solve clues and complete the course.

Another activity, a session of archery, where pupils tried their hand at aiming arrows at targets set up on the school field. Under the watchful eyes of trained instructor James, many discovered a hidden talent, and much fun was had by all.

After working up an appetite, the children enjoyed a special party tea, provided by Thomas Franks, of pizza and cake!

Next came a heartwarming teddy bear and pillow case design making workshop. The children lovingly stuffed their chosen bears or designed their very own pillowcase. The activity offered a calming contrast to the adrenaline of orienteering and archery and gave everyone a cuddly souvenir to take home—or to sleep with that night.

The highlight of the evening came just before bedtime, when Horus Birds of Prey arrived for a spectacular owl display. As the sun began to set, the children listened in awe as they learned about the birds’ habitats, hunting techniques, and special adaptations. The smallest owl ‘Flint’ was a particular favourite, earning gasps of delight with its cuteness. Captivated by the owls impressive goodbye waves and silent flapping of their wings, the children couldn’t wait to get up close, put on a special glove and hold out their arms for ‘Flint’ and pose for the camera!

After the display, the children made their way back to Prep to get ready for bedtime. Teeth brushed, faces washed, mats rolled out and sleeping bags positioned in the Prep R, 1 and 2 classrooms, the children settled down for bedtime stories on the classroom smart boards, whispering excitedly about their favourite moments before drifting off to sleep—many cuddling the teddy bears they had made just hours earlier.

The sleepover was more than just an overnight stay—it was a night full of new experiences, laughter, and a little bit of magic that our Prep 2 and 3 children will remember for many years to come.
