A celebration of biosciences
Students at Westholme have enjoyed celebrating Biology Week, promoted by the Royal Society of Biology. This annual event is a celebration of biosciences and events take place across the UK.
At Westholme, Biology Week got off to an exciting start on Monday with the Biology Bake Off. Thank you to everyone who entered – there were some fabulous entries including brains, eyeballs and broken bones to name but a few!
The Biology department were also delighted to welcome back former Head Girl, Sophie Ward who has recently graduated from the University of Oxford with a 2:1 in Cell and Systems Biology, majoring in molecular medicine (genetics), minoring in neuroscience. On Tuesday lunchtime assisted staff in the dissections session. This saw students dissect lungs, hearts and kidneys.
Sophie also hosted a talk with students to discuss studying at Oxford and Science at University. Students were really interested in seeing pictures of University laboratories and hearing about Sophie’s experiences.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Biology department for putting on such brilliant activities and also to Sophie for taking time out to come and share her knowledge with fellow Westholmians.
