British Textile Biennial

Our Design and Technology students visited British Textile Biennial hosted in Blackburn.

GCSE and A-level students looked at the variety of textile exhibitions, that were on display for the public across multiple venues. With Blackburn’s history in the textile industry this made for an extremely interesting visit.

At the event, local Adidas designer Gary Aspden, released a new pair of limited edition ‘Blackburn’ trainers, which are based around the colours of the red rose of Lancashire. Theses trainers are in support of the local charity Nightsafe, which is also supported by Westholme School.

Gary and multiple trainer collectors came together to release the trainers and display over 1200 pairs of limited edition trainers in the town, as part of the British Textile Biennial. Students looked at designing their own shoes amongst other projects hosted by a variety of artists and designers such as Jamie Holman. Jamie delivered an insightful presentation about the changes in the town due to the textile industry, which was very insightful for all involved.
