Prep 2

Prep 2 have been very busy since returning to school after the Easter holidays. There have been lots of new topics to find out about as well as welcoming a new member of the class, Harper. English work has been focused around the text ‘Meerkat Mail’ by Emily Gravett. The children have used descriptive language to describe settings in the book as well as planning and writing a diary entry. Next week, we will be looking at information texts and how they are set out using subheadings, before writing our own fact files about meerkats.

In maths, Prep 2 have been studying measurements including length, height, mass, volume and capacity. They have worked hard to use the correct vocabulary and are getting to grips with centimetres, metres, grams, kilograms, litres and millilitres. Our new history topic is hospitals and healthcare, and we have really enjoyed finding out about Florence Nightingale. We received a museum loan from Lancashire Museums which gave us a better insight into the remarkable lady who transformed our hospitals. In science, we have been finding out about living things and their habitats around the world. We have matched animals to their habitats and have discussed how they have adapted.

Prep 2 have also considered how humans are affecting certain habitats and what we can do to stop this. We conducted a litter audit round the school grounds and noted all the different litter which we found. This led us to think about recycling and we know that this is a something which our Eco Council are talking about. Our art lessons have seen us exploring clay. We have used our hands and a variety of tools to shape the clay and are working towards creating pinch pots and house tiles.

Last Wednesday, we really enjoyed welcoming our parents into school for our annual Book Look and Lunch. Prep 2 thoroughly enjoyed showing their parents their books and were proud of their work.

As we approach the last few weeks of this academic year, we still have a lot to look forward to such as the swimming gala, sports day and the Prep 2 and 3 sleepover, but Prep 2 are really proving to Mrs Milnes that they are ready for the challenges of Prep 3.
