Foreign Language Spelling Bee

Regional Final Success!

Last week, three Year 7 pupils and Miss Shaw headed off to Manchester Metropolitan University to take part in the Regional Finals of the Foreign Language Spelling Bee. To reach this stage, Charlotte Corrigan, Sofia Ali and Madinah Ghafoor had worked very hard and won their class and school rounds.

All three students performed extremely well, spelling as many Spanish words as possible, using the Spanish alphabet, in one minute – a tricky task! The first round was very tense and Madinah qualified to the next round, spelling an impressive 15 words. In the final round she then upped her game, spelling an amazing 19 words!

Sofia, Charlotte and Madinah should be very proud of their achievements on the day and extra congratulations go to Madinah, who will now compete in the National Finals. What a spectacular feat in a competition of 75,000 pupils! Madinah will travel to Cambridge in the Summer Term to take part in the competition. Good luck, Madinah!
