Having a ‘welly’ good time in the River Brock!

Year 8 enjoy their River Studies!

The Year 8 Geographers had a wonderful time measuring the channel characteristics of the River Brock. They perfected their fieldwork skills, working in teams to gather the data so they could calculate the cross sectional area, velocity and discharge of the stream.

Kick sampling their way downstream in brightly coloured wellies proved to be a very popular activity and revealed a wonderful diversity of freshwater invertebrates such as the pollution sensitive mayfly and stonefly nymphs, as well as a fair sized, if rather stunned, brown trout!
