In Memoriam of Mr Ian Woolley MBE

It is with great sadness that we announce that our former Chair of Governors, Mr Ian Woolley MBE, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday 24th October aged 91 years.

Mr Woolley became Chair of Governors at the age of 34, in 1968 and held the role for 23 years, retiring in 1991. He had a long association with the school and made a huge impact on its future. He appointed former Principal, Mrs Lillian Croston in 1987 and it was under his guidance that the school raised money in the form of long term loans from parents to allow the school to build the Thatcher Wing and other buildings.

Mr Woolley was also the Chairman of Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Health Authority and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust for 19 years until March 2003. He was also the current chair of Age UK Blackburn with Darwen and a former magistrate, as well as being a life time member of Pleasington Golf Club, where he first joined in 1947.

We express our sincere condolences to his wife Joyce, children, and all of the family.
