National Netball

Westholme 5th out of the Top 18 Schools in the country at the National Schools’ Netball Finals!

On Friday 19th March Westholme’s U16 netball team travelled down to Roedean School, Brighton to take part in the National Finals of the U16 National Schools’ Netball Competition.

The tournament was a massive event with all the top schools from all over the country taking part in the U19, U16 and U14 finals.  The weather was very cold and windy but it stayed dry for most of the time.

The team had a fantastic start to the competition with wins over St Gabriel’s High School (7-5), St Anthony’s High School (10-7) and St Peter’s College (11-7).  There was a long break before playing the two best teams in our section: Bromsgrove School (the eventual winners of the competition) and Herts and Essex High School.  Westholme unfortunately lost these two matches 4-9 and 7-11.  The team kept working hard and won the rest of their matches against Nottingham Girls’ High School (13-6), Benendan School (10-7) and Wakefield High School (11-3).

Overall the Westholme team won six matches and lost two, finishing third in group and fifth overall in the competition.  All the games were extremely competitive and the Westholme team should be very proud of their achievements – especially as most of the players have another year in this age group.

Well done to the Westholme U16 Netball Team – 5th out of the top 18 schools in the country – an excellent achievement!
