Mrs Barnett, Headteacher at Westholme Prep School, writes about the second ever Prep School Showcase. You can find out more below:
The Croston Theatre played host to our second Prep School Showcase which included dramatic performance, poetry recitals and instrumental performances from children throughout KS2. Although this will be an annual event, our inaugural Showcase was actually hosted in March 2019 with the productions in 2020 and 2021 unable to take place because of the Covid pandemic. It was certainly good to be back on stage in the Croston Theatre in front of a live audience.
The show opened with a wonderful performance of ‘Ode to Joy’ by Beethoven by the Orchestra, which set the tone for the evening.
During the evening there were some outstanding solo performances by students playing an array of instruments including the piano, recorder, cello, clarinet, guitar, violin and drums.
The String Group and Orchestra performed some beautifully uplifting arrangements and we were also treated to performances from some of our Peripatetic teachers: Mr Hoyle on Violin, Mr Millest on Tuba, Mrs Threadgold on the Clarinet and Mr Cashell on the Cello. Year 4 opened the second half with their dramatic performance of ‘The Princess and the Pea’ and throughout the evening the spoken word was also celebrated through Lamda pieces and Public Speaking, where Aydaan, winner of the Year 6 Public Speaking Competition presented his speech on Coca Cola to the audience.
Closing the show was the Prep Choir who performed a moving rendition of ‘One Little Voice’; a truly fitting and very apt ending to a glorious evening which was thoroughly enjoyed by students, staff, family and friends alike.
Congratulations to everyone who was involved; I was proud of you all!
