The INSPIRED Sixth Form has been bustling with positivity, enthusiasm and a general excitement for the start of the new academic year.
It has been wonderful to hear about the passionate approach students are taking in their A Levels, with tutors remarking on the dynamism of their classes and how every student is immersing themselves in the topics being covered.
Additionally, students have been able to extend their skillset in the Sixth Form enrichment programme, which includes the opportunity for our Football and Hockey teams to return to action against opposing schools. It is a huge honour to represent Westholme and perform at the pinnacle of sport in the First and Second XI teams, something our students have fully embraced so far, playing with skill, aptitude, determination and to the highest quality.
Other enrichment activities that have begun include our “Design, Make, Innovate” group, which affords students the opportunity to develop design, manufacturing and financial skills through a series of practical activities throughout the year, including their current task of sourcing materials to design shoes that enable students to walk on water – we cannot wait for them to “make a splash” when they test the final products. Our Business students continue to enjoy the benefits of taking a role in the running of our school shop, Westies, whilst the WSS News team have begun producing and filming the first episode of the academic year. These activities are just a few of the extra opportunities provided for our Sixth Form students, which they have fully embraced in these first few weeks and enjoyed as part of our holistic experience.
Our Student Executive have also been very busy in their first few weeks, leading whole school assemblies, supporting events with parents of our new Year 7 students, whilst also planning ahead for the varied events that are coming soon in the academic calendar. It is exciting to see so much happening in our Sixth Form and the positive atmosphere that defines the Sixth Form environment in every capacity. They have certainly begun the year impressively and I am looking forward to seeing everything they will go on to accomplish as the year unfolds.
