Skeletons with Year One

Year One learn all about ‘Ourselves’

Year One have been learning about skeletons in their ‘Ourselves’ topic.

The physiotherapist showed the children  a hand x-ray and even took their toys to the x-ray to show them how to see inside.

They have already welcomed a life sized human Skeleton into their classrooms and had a team of physiotherapists from BMI healthcare visit them to discuss the human body and how X-rays can help to view a skeleton.

First, the children explored the grounds looking for suitable materials to make their skeleton with, then they began to assemble their skeleton.

This week the two Year One classes split into mixed class team and went on a scavenger hunt to collect natural materials to make their own skeletons.   They had to think about the size and shapes of bones to create a skeleton sculpture!
