Teach your Teacher!

Entertainment on the final assembly

We have spent a wonderful morning enjoying lots of entertainment in The Croston Theatre this morning.

All week, rehearsals have been taking place for the fundraising extravaganza ‘Teacher Your Teacher’ – where the students have been teaching their teachers various dances. We have been raising money for Christies Cancer Charity because Sixth Form student, Zainab Khatoon, has just finished a course of cancer treatment there. This morning, it was time for ‘curtain up’.

Expertly compared by Mr Stewart, Mr Wignall, Kirsty Dutton and Hannah Dobrashian, we enjoyed performances by the staff band, playing Wallace and Gromit, Irish Dancers, Morris Dancers and Kung Fu Fighting. A major highlight and definite crowd pleaser was the Little Mix v One Direction dance off – who knew Mr Millest could move so well?! Another very memorable moment was when Emily Wong performed a moving, personal song for Zainab and there was truly not a dry eye in the house.

Staff who are leaving Westholme today had also been asked to select their favourite song for the morning. These included a Year 9 group dance of the song ‘Happy’, in tribute to Miss Edgar, songs from Les Mis especially for Miss Sabben and Mrs Dagnan and a beautiful duet from the musical Wicked, which Miss Cunliffe had chosen.

In total, with the generous gift of £1000 from Mr Lamb, the School community raised an astonishing £2500 for Christies. As Mr Marsden, our Chair of Governors gave his donation, he said, “What a fantastic initiative and a real celebration of all that Westholme stands for – teamwork, support, thinking of others and having fun. Well done!”
