Debating for and against the institution of marriage
33 Sixth Form, Year 11 and staff put forward their views vociferously today either for or against the institution of marriage.
Debate raged through a consideration of gay marriage, the cost of marriage and its allegiance to patriarchal society to the religious value of marriage and its importance in demonstrating a truly committed relationship.
The final vote revealed 25 in favour of marriage and 6 against with 2 abstentions.

Westholme helped me to understand that in life hard work always beats natural talent. So, everywhere I go now I always make sure I’m working harder than my competition – this allows me to achieve my dreams.
At Westholme I was taught that no dream was too big. We were encouraged to aim for the stars, which I did and succeeded! Knowing I had their constant support even to this day, anything was possible.
At Westholme, aspirations were encouraged strongly, along with a clear ethos that working hard was the way to achieve them. It’s an attitude that has been incredibly positive for me.
More than anything, Westholme taught me to be fearless in my aspirations. It was an environment which encouraged me to stay true to myself, and to treasure and cultivate my creativity.
I think that it is extremely important that people aim for the best and keep their aspirations for the future high. Aspirations and dreams are hugely motivating.
