More Action on the Athletics Track
On Tuesday evening, our Juniors visited Kirkham Grammar School for their annual athletics fixture. As usual, the fixture was the first of the Summer Term and provided an opportunity for the children to gain valuable experience in a number of different events in track and field disciplines.
First up was the 45m hurdles, followed by one, two and three laps of the Kirkham 170m track, with the 60m sprint completing the events. There were notable performances from Kate Deegan, claiming first place in both the three-lap race and the 60m sprint, and Alexander Galiatsatos, who stormed home to also win the 60m race.
In the field events, children took part in Long, Triple and High Jumps, Shot Putt and either Cricket or Rounders Ball Throw. With such a variety on offer, it was great to see all of the children developing their techniques and honing their skills in preparation for the upcoming AJIS athletics competition in June.
To finish, everyone took part in two relay events; the first a single lap of the track and the second a medley relay involving two children completing half laps with two more running a single lap each.
Overall it was a fantastic evening with the girls finishing 68-86 and boys 49-104 both, unfortunately, in Kirkham’s favour. However, our team gained valuable experience and we are very proud of their efforts.
