Westholme Virtual Careers Convention

Written by Mrs Hibberd, Head of Careers

As part of the Careers provision at Westholme, I organise a biennial Careers Convention in school where industry professionals are invited to talk with students about careers in their field of work.

The event aims to give students a first-hand opportunity to discuss the day-to-day work involved in a variety of career areas and professions. Students confirm how valuable they find these evenings in terms of giving substance to particular careers under consideration and in helping to shape and clarify future plans.

Unfortunately our Careers Convention last year was cancelled as we entered the first national lockdown. As restrictions for events continue, I have been exploring ways to organise the event to ensure students are still able to access essential careers advice and guidance to motivate and inspire them to pursue their studies.

I am therefore excited to announce our Westholme Virtual Careers Convention to be held on Teams on Tuesday 11th May 5-7pm. This will involve a series of short online live presentations from industry professionals including Q&A sessions.

To represent the careers fair area that we would have had at school, there will also be a virtual ‘map’ of a wide range of careers that students can explore and view videos, information and other resources provided by our career specialists. This will provide an insight into different careers including advice about qualifications, skills and work experience.

I am keen include as many different career areas as possible to show our students the diverse range of careers available to them in the future. If you would like to inspire our students and promote your specialist area of work and expertise by providing information for the careers fair, please email me at hibberdc@westholmeschool.com.

Further information about the event and presentation timetable will be sent out soon so please add the date to your diary.
