World Book Day 2019

Following on from the celebrations on Monday, students across all sites enjoyed lots more fun activities to mark World Book Day today.

At Senior School, Mrs Hiller presented a fabulous assembly about the wonderful world of books. She explained that many of today’s films are actually based on the book and a number of entertaining video clips were shown where she was seen starring in the film alongside the likes of Forest Gump, Lord Voldemort and Vito Corleone (of the Godfather fame). She even made a guest appearance hiding from dinosaurs in Jurassic Park!

The cleverly edited films led to Mrs Hiller launching this year’s World Book Day challenge. She has asked each form, with the help of their Form Tutor, to produce a 10 second film clip based on the theme of World Book Day.

We look forward to seeing some of the clips over the forthcoming week.

Our students also enjoyed a fabulous Harry Potter themed lunch. The ‘Hogwarts Express Menu’ included ‘Polyjuice Potion Soup’ and ‘Hippogrif Burgers’. This went down a storm!

Our Reception class enjoyed a story read by Mrs Horner, our Principal, which was called ‘The Pencil’. The children listened intently and were very well behaved throughout the reading of the whole book.

Mrs Hornby read to our Year 6 students which they thoroughly enjoyed and were transfixed by the story, ‘Bad Dad’, written by David Walliams. Mr Cornwall read Roald Dahl’s classic ‘Matilda’, to our Year 4 children and Mrs Hadjigeorgiou kept our Year 3 class entertained with ‘Green Ham and Eggs’ by Dr Seuss.

Students also took part in ‘Drop and Read’ throughout the day. This meant anytime a bell rang they had to drop everything, no matter what they were doing and read their chosen book for 5 minutes.

What a fun filled day our students have had.

Thank you to everyone who was involved!
