Year 1 Polar Explorer Topic Catch-Up

In Year 1 the children have been learning all about the Polar Regions and historical explorers. Two weeks ago we hot seated Ernest Shackleton.

The children were fascinated in his voyage to Antarctica on his ship called Endurance. They learnt that Shackleton didn’t manage to cross Antarctica as he had hoped and had to leave his crew alone whilst he sought help using one of the ship’s lifeboats.

After the lesson one of our pupils, Arabella told her grandad all about it and he shared some photographs of a replica lifeboat which would have been on Shackleton’s ship Endurance. The replica lifeboat is on display in Chile and Arabella’s grandad has seen it and sent some photos in to share with our class. We were so pleased with these photos, what a treat!
