Year 11 artists and photographers were afforded the opportunity to join us both for an exciting and energetic trip to London on 11th November. The journey began by train from Preston to London Euston and from there we set off on our first underground journey to Camden. The bustling market around the lock never fails to disappoint and we all enjoyed eating some of the delicious food on offer whilst taking in the sights and sounds of the stalls. Following some group photographs we headed back on the tube, down to the Shoreditch area of the city to explore the nearby roads and alleyways for examples of street art.
We were all amazed at the sheer volume of work on display and the diverse range of styles. Artists and photographers alike were busy capturing as much of the imagery as possible, which ranged from paste-ups and stickers to spray painted and stencilled pieces.
With weary feet starting to feel the pavement pounding take hold we decided to take a break in Spitalfields market for a refuel before we headed back on the underground southwards to capture St.Dunstan’s in the East on camera before it went dark. The church was ravaged by the Great fire of London and also heavily bombed in WW2 but the structure that remains is now an oasis of calm amongst the bustling city and skyscrapers that surround it. The trees have entwined themselves around the remaining structure and looked resplendent when covered in an array of autumn leaves. We proceeded on foot along the edge of the Thames for the final part of our journey just as the sun finally disappeared and the darkness descended for our walk across Tower Bridge.
The lights across the city shone brightly and provided a stunning backdrop to some group portraits and landscape scenes before heading back to Euston station. As the train arrived we were all glad to finally sit down, homeward bound back to the north, not only with weary feet and legs but with cameras full of photographs and happy memories of a fabulous day in the capital city!
