Young Women and Politics

Emma Lawton’s outstanding competition entry

The Office of the Leader of the Opposition and the Chief Whip invited young women aged 17 and 18 years to enter the Young Women and Politics essay competition.   Entrants were asked to share their thoughts on one of three questions:

”¢  What are the three most important issues for young women in the UK?
”¢  What makes politics count for young women today?
”¢  What can politicians do to better represent young people’s concerns in the UK?

Congratulations to Westholme’s Upper Sixth student, Emma Lawton on making it into the list of top ten entrants nationwide.   The judges commented on the high standard of Emma’s essay, and author Louise Rennison, in particular, said how impressed she was with her work.
