At the beginning of February we welcomed the record-breaking debut author A.F. Steadman to Westholme, to introduce her brilliant new novel ‘Skandar and the Unicorn Thief’.
Students from Prep 4-6 and Year 7 excitedly joined the special event in the Croston Theatre, organised by Silverwood Events, along with students from visiting schools and members of staff. Students eagerly awaited the introduction of the novel, a New York Times’ bestseller, and the author herself. After meeting Dr Robson and a students beforehand, she entered the Theatre amid much anticipation.
She explained the concept of the book and where the idea and initial concept came from, right from the imagination of the first character up to the formation of tribes of unicorns and the wider world that the book is set in.
She engaged with students throughout, asking questions from the crowd and getting their involvement in the process of creating their very own character, which could even possibly feature in a future book. Students were also given the opportunity to ask their own questions at the end of the event. Dr Robson thanked Mrs Steadman for visiting Westholme and presented her with a bouquet of flowers. The students then had their book copies signed by the author.
A special thank you to Silverwood events for organising such a great event and to A.F. Steadman herself for coming in! We would like to wish her the very best for her future novels and success.
