Old Girls return to school with Financial Facts!
Current pupils were entranced to hear about the career paths of three of our Alumni when they came into School to be part of our first ‘Alumni World’ series of seminars.
The objective is to take a career theme, in this case Business and Finance, and present a set of different paths to inspire pupils about potential career choices. It becomes all the more real and relevant because the paths have been trodden by girls who were once in exactly the same shoes. This first one was lively, engaging and illuminating, with Ann Brennan (Tax Director at GE), Katie Walmsley (part of a MBO at Veracity) and Julie Meadows (Non Exec Director and Consultant to a family trust) all explaining their routes to the top. The stories were diverse, but the Westholme spirit shone through – seize every opportunity you get, work hard, play hard, and stay true to your principles. The women had all grown into confident, self assured multi-taskers with families, hobbies, responsibilities and very fine careers. They really were a credit to the School and themselves! Mrs Croston recalled all the girls and welcomed them back very warmly, saying, “It is so important for our present girls to see the wider picture. The A Levels and University places they strive for are but part of the journey of discovering a worthwhile career. The more opportunities they can see, the better.” The next Alumni World Seminar will focus on PR and Marketing and takes place on May 4th at lunch time.
