A Literary Celebration! – students and staff at Senior School enthusiastically took part in the annual, time honoured traditional Westholme celebration of the written and spoken word.
On Friday, we celebrated National Poetry Day in style, pledging our allegiance to the celebration of this special day, with Mrs Hiller in assembly; followed by a performance of Carol Ann Duffy’s ‘Medusa’ by GCSE Drama students and then a whole host of entries to our competition at break and lunchtime ranging from a rap to videos and songs, to poignant poems, drama performances and dances – all celebrating the theme of change and including a poem.
True to the spirit of National Poetry Day and this year’s theme of change, we even celebrated Westholme’s NPD on Friday, rather than Thursday when it was officially National Poetry Day.
The winners were :
Junior – Miss Dent’s form – 8 Pendle
Intermediate – Mrs Oracz’s form – 9 Calder
Senior – joint winners – Mrs Corrigan’s VIJC and Mrs Hadjigeorgiou’s form – VIREH
Congratulations to everyone involved, and in Mrs Hiller’s words ‘you helped to make it the best National Poetry Day ever…!’
