Excellent performances from Westholme students

On Saturday, a formidable team of 10 skiers travelled to Pendle Ski Slope to take on some of the North West’s best in downhill slalom ski racing.

Though it was a bitterly cold morning, the team arrived keen and ready to warm up on the slope in preparation for their big race. Each of our competitors had two timed runs down the slope, which involved weaving in and out of extremely close gates in the fastest time possible. The skill of our skiers was evident with some very fast times recorded.

After a very serious morning of racing, they then took part in an incredibly fun head to head knockout race in the afternoon. All competitors were placed into mixed ability teams of four and some of Westholme’s skiers came close to the finals. There was a particularly tense moment when siblings Laura and William took each other on head to head.

Overall, all of our skiers gave an excellent performance on the day and enjoyed competing.

Big congratulations go to Laura Backhouse and Alice Nickson for winning trophies in their events.
