Police pay a visit to the Sociologists

Lunchtime lecture from Lancashire Constabulary

On Wednesday 24th April Surraiya Issa a Community Engagement Officer and Yasmin Zaffar a member of Lancashire’s Counter Terrorism Branch, came to Westholme School to talk to members of the Sociology Department and other girls in the Sixth form.   They talked about their roles and experiences, in particularly what it is like being an Asian woman in the police force today. The girls asked lots of insightful questions and were really interested to hear about the varied career paths that both women had had whilst they have worked for the Constabulary, juggling their hectic jobs around family life and other commitments. At the end of the talk a number of girls said they were now considering a career in the police at some stage, be it as a Special Officer or as a Detective.

Thank you to both Surraiya and Yasmin for giving up their time to come and visit us! We look forward to seeing you again soon!
