Music is a vital part of the curriculum at Infant School which enables our children to develop self confidence and an enthusiasm for performing and learning about music.
Music is taught by the music specialist and each class is timetabled for one music lesson per week, with Year Two progressing to two lessons.
The children in the early years develop their experience of music through singing games and playing simple percussion instruments, developing both musical and social skills.
Year One and Year Two progress to develop aural skills and fundamental musical skills through song, dance, listening, and playing a wide variety of classroom percussion, as they create and perform music.
In Year Two, pupils begin to recognise the early stages of reading music notation through learning the Ocarina as a class instrument. Year Two also have the opportunity to begin to learn the violin or cello, which can be continued at the Junior School.
There are many opportunities for the children to celebrate their musical talents by taking part in school assemblies, Christmas productions and performances.
