Student Enrichment 2021

Our INSPIRED Enrichment Programme was set up for pupils in Yr 11 & 13 to enjoy a wide range of co-curricular activities for the final weeks of their Summer Term.

They were able to select from a packed timetable of varied activities that they could enjoy with their friends, making memories, having fun challenging themselves or just trying something new – here are a few of the highlights below!

GREAT WESTHOLME BAKE-OFF

The Great Westholme Bake-Off was a fantastic success! Judged by members of staff, students were given certain ingredients and asked to produce a couple of dishes within the allocated time. Congratulations to Rubie and Evie for winning the technical challenge with their Lemon Pudding and well done to all, it was great fun!

PAINT A POT/CLAY WORKSHOP

Students in Y11 & 13 allowed their creative sides to come out in this Arty workshop, having fun decorating mugs and plates with glaize paints and materials. Some fantastic creations were on display, which were later fired in the Kiln – creating some amazing Westholme memories.

LAKE DISTRICT SCRAMBLE DAY

Yr 11 & 13 students were able to sign up for an amazing trip to the Lake District as part of their Enrichment programme. They reached the summit of Blencathra, with stunning views around the Lakeland fells, and also visited Scales Tarn and scrambled up ‘Sharp Edge’! The blue skies and warm weather added to what was a fantastic experience for our students (and staff!) in a beautiful part of the country.

ALTON TOWERS

This one didn’t need too much explanation to our students,  and it was fantastic enrichment day out at Alton Towers for Sixth Formers and Year 11’s on a sunny day in Staffordshire. Whether it was the scary or more laid back rides, there was something for everyone to enjoy. It was a long day but it was well worth the trip for those that made it!

MOUNTAIN BIKING, FOREST OF BOWLAND

Off-road trails, jumps, beautiful scenery and ice-cream were on offer for students with this mountain biking trip to the Forest of Bowland. They were able to either rent or bring their own bike, discovering the countryside and having fun cycling round the trail paths.

YEAR 11 SIXTH FORM INDUCTION DAY

Students in Year 11 were able to take part in two days of enrichment activities to get an idea of what life could be like in our INSPIRED Sixth Form. There were taster lessons for A Level choices, free periods to relax in the Sixth Form common room and cafe, as well as lots of fun activities laid on for them such as dodgeball and outdoor sack races. We also welcomed external Year 11 pupils and applicants to join in the fun!

Overall the Enrichment Programme was a fantastic success for both the students and staff members who got involved. It was a great way to end what has been a challenging year for everyone at Westholme and the variety of activities that were on offer to pupils really helped to end the academic year on a high. We’d like to wish everyone a relaxing Summer break!
