Quarry Bank Mill Trip
Year 6 were transported back in time on their trip to the historic Quarry Bank Mill, and became Victorian mill workers for the day.
All dressed in superb Victorian outfits, they spent the day at Quarry Bank Mill in Styal, Cheshire, where they toured the mill to see spinning machines in action and visited the Apprentice House.
The children were given an insight into what life would have been like for the apprentices at the mill. Twelve hour days spent working amongst dangerous machinery, getting up at 5.30am, six days a week, sleeping on straw and cleaning out the privies, were things children had to get used to. Schooling was a privilege and discipline was harsh.
After trying some of the factory jobs, including sweeping up and ‘carrying the can’, Year 6 decided that living in the computer age isn’t so bad after all!
Everyone really enjoyed such an interactive day of learning.
